At the beginning of 2020, I decided I wanted to do something special for my birthday. Usually I would not do much when my birthday rolled around. I would treat myself to a mall trip, dinner or go see a movie. I wanted things to be different for my 31st birthday.
I booked a flight to Rome, Italy for a few days. This trip has been on my bucket list for a long time. At this point I knew I liked traveling solo, so I made my reservations for a few days after my birthday.
The first day I had a tour of the famous Colosseum and other nearby attractions. By the time the the tours were over I had worked up an appetite and was ready to eat some great authentic Italian cuisine. I decided on pizza and located a parlor near my hotel. Pepperoni pizza and minestrone soup hit the spot! There were a couple of key differences I immediately noticed. The soup was not heavily seasoned, but let the flavor of the vegetables shine. And the pizza with thin crust with more spice to the pepperoni than what I was used to. It was delicious!
I had booked a few other tours, including a food tour around the city. On the food tour I met two people who were also from the United States. After the tour ended, all of us decided to just explore other sites in the city. We ended the day with a good Italian dinner.
After dinner I strolled through the streets of Rome back to my room. It was amazing to see so many people walking through the streets at night without a care in the world and just enjoying the moment. I felt safe, and I felt the hospitality. Rome is definitely a location worth exploring!
I stayed in an amazing hotel near the Colosseum. The customer service was amazing, and they treated me to breakfast every morning. When I caught an early morning return flight back to the states, they made sure breakfast was left in my room the night before. I give this place a five star rating!
Rome is a city that should definitely be explored. There is so much history in the city.
